Creating a Community of
Belonging, Acceptance, and Meaningful Contribution

Our Story

Restoration Project works to illuminate the profound value and humanness of individuals that the world can dismiss as inferior or as a liability

We do this by teaching woodworking skills to adults with developmental disabilities. In the process, we are also able to help them become independent artisans and ultimately find meaningful work in the woodworking projects we facilitate for them. Working alongside volunteers our artisans create beautiful pieces of home decor that tell an inspiring story of restoration; revealing the worth and beauty that is found in the midst of disability.

Working with our team of Artisans, we produce handcrafted home decor products that are offered for sale directly from our website. Made primarily from reclaimed wood in our Hamilton, Ontario based shop – these items not only serve as stylish modern decor pieces but also provide direct financial support to our talented Artisans.

What We Do

WoodWorking 101

We offer introductory woodworking workshops to adults with developmental disabilities. We teach them basic woodworking skills, and workshop safety. Participants have the opportunity to choose from a variety of projects that they will learn to build from start to finish. Volunteer assistance will allow individuals to work at their own pace and ensure safety throughout the whole process. Registration varies throughout the year, so for more information on when the next workshop is, you can contact us at info@restorationproject.ca or click here for our calendar of events.

Our Artisan Program

Some of our promising participants can come work with us as an Artisan. They help produce handcrafted home decor that we sell right on our website. Again, these items not only serve as beautiful decorative pieces but also give our Artisans the opportunity to generate income for themselves through their woodworking in a safe space fostered on the principles of belonging and acceptance.
